The Romantic Sublime

The Romantic Sublime is a descriptive phase often related to a movement of painters and philosophers of the post enlightenment era that bore opposition to the rational thinking of science and saw beauty in the power and vastness of nature. The sublime movement re-appeared in the drug and counter-culture of the 60's and is still prevalent in the brand identity of Apple computers (think Mojave wallpaper)... It is a recurring theme that crops up in the work on this site and can be attributed to work of the Critical Designer Anthony Dunne and the chapter in his book (Sublime Gadgets) Hertzian tales as well as projects by James Auger. Also specifically relating to this and Apple UX I wrote a thesis and released a cd in 2015 called Rainforest 3000.
